WATFORD, England – Keep it simple.
It’s such an easy concept, but when it comes to scheming offenses and protections in the NFL, sometimes that phrase is lost on coaches.
That seems to have been the case in Detroit with former offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who was let go on Monday, according to a couple players. Some of the running concepts were complex and the blocking schemes complicated, and obviously, the Lions have struggled to run the ball and protect the quarterback with any kind of consistency through their 1-6 start.
So what’s next for new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, new offensive line coach Ron Prince and running backs/run game coordinator Curtis Modkins?
