Nick Fairley out for 2017, NFL career in jeopardy with heart ailment

A heart condition that was first detected before Nick Fairley even played a down in the NFL will cost him the 2017 season, and possibly his career.

The New Orelans Saints placed Fairley on the non-football injury list Monday, meaning he won't play in 2017. The question now is if the defensive tackle -- once drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2011 -- will ever play again.

According to NOLA.com, Fairley saw at least three heart specialists after a team doctor noticed an irregularity with his heart at some point after the physical he took to sign his new contract in March.
