Detroit Lions great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lem Barney is suing Happy's Pizza for alleged race discrimination, claiming a manager at a store in Commerce Twp. refused to serve him and his wife because they are African-American.
Moreover, the lawsuit claims, the manager at the suburban pizza shop in Oakland County suggested the former Lions defensive back and his wife instead go to the Southfield location.
As the lawsuit notes, Southfield is 70 percent African-American. In comparison, rural Commerce Twp., where the Barneys live, is only 2 percent African-American.
But the Barneys didn't go to Southfield.
