New WR Jeremy Kerley could return punts, too

Jeremy Kerley set an NFL record with 36 fair catches in 2012, a record since eclipsed by former Detroit Lions return man Jeremy Ross.

But now that Kerley has followed Ross, one season removed, to Detroit, the Lions’ presumptive new punt returner said he doesn’t want to be known by the title he was once given, The King of the Fair Catch.

“Just this past year, I almost had a rule I said to myself, no fair catches,” Kerley told the Free Press in a phone interview Tuesday. “So any chance I can get, I’m trying to score.
