ATLAS TWP. – There was always a fresh pot of coffee brewing and a batch of doughnuts to snack on in back.
And whenever one of the locals stopped in for a premium cut of meat, they left with something more.
Roberts Market in tiny Atlas Township, southeast of Flint, was a bit of a gathering spot back then, a three-aisle country store with creaky wood floors, a couple gas pumps out front and the best service in town.
Al Wood and his wife, Barb, bought the place in 1966, when their oldest son, Rod, was 6 years old.
