BOCA RATON, Fla. – Jim Caldwell was a little more than halfway through his hour-long breakfast interview at the NFL’s owners meetings Wednesday when he took his first question about Matthew Stafford.
For a quarterback who caught so much flak about his play the past two years, the irony of the wait wasn’t lost on his staunchest defender.
“We haven’t covered him a whole lot, because you guys are feeling the same way,” Caldwell said. “Otherwise, that would have been the first question.”
After losing Ndamukong Suh to free agency and Calvin Johnson to retirement the past two off-seasons, the Detroit Lions are leaning on Stafford’s right arm to carry them this year more than ever.
