On Friday evening—Saturday morning in Tokyo—olympic athlete Melissa Gonzalez finished second in the first heat of the 400 meter hurdles at the 2020 Summer Olympics, qualifying her for the semifinal round. Gonzalez, representing the Colombian national team, ran a 55.37—her personal best and a national record for the country of Columbia.
Gonzalez is the wife of Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough, who was watching in Michigan after his team’s third training camp practice. Lions head coach Dan Campbell wished Gonzalez luck during his Friday morning press conference.
“I want to wish Melissa Blough the best of luck tonight and David, for that matter,” Campbell said.
