TAMPA, Fla. -- His numbers weren't great, but Matthew Stafford insists he got in the work he needed to be ready for the Sept. 10 opener against the Jets. And really, that's all that matters.
Which is a good thing, because, well, the numbers weren't great.
Stafford played into the third quarter of Detroit's 33-30 win against Tampa on Friday, but completed just 9 of 18 passes for 113 yards and no touchdowns. He drove the Lions offense inside the 10-yard line on their first two series, but settled for field goals both times.
Detroit scored six points on Stafford's five series, and trailed 27-6 when Matt Cassel was called in from the bullpen in the third quarter.
