Matt Patricia's final Patriots defense scorched by Nick Foles in Super Bowl

Matt Patricia had a challenging but reasonable goal entering the Super Bowl: to contain Nick Foles and the Eagles offense and come out with another Patriots championship.

Sunday night proved to be short of the mark.

The Patriots lost to the Eagles 41-33 in a game that featured a backup Eagles quarterback doing too much for New England's offense to come back against. Foles, a backup who was filling in for injured star Carson Wentz, finished 28 for 43 for 373 yards and three touchdowns against one interception in facing the defense led by Patricia, the next Detroit Lions coach, to win the game's most valuable player honors.
