Matt Patricia taps Syracuse ties in hiring Paul Pasqualoni as DC

Matt Patricia has found someone to run his defense -- and it’s a person with whom he’s very familiar.

Former Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni, who was Patricia’s boss with the Orange from 2001-03, was named the new Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Wednesday morning – one of seven coaching hires announced by the organization.

Patricia will be officially introduced as the team’s head coach at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Pasqualoni has most of his experience coaching defensive linemen. He was a defensive coordinator in the NFL for three seasons: In Miami from 2008-09 and then with Dallas in 2010.
