ALLEN PARK -- Nobody wants to talk about the quarterback battle, but all signs continue to point toward Matt Cassel having the edge over Jake Rudock heading into the second week of the preseason.
The quarterbacks do alternate the second-team reps, but Cassel gets most of them these days. And with Matthew Stafford sitting out the preseason opener against Oakland, Cassel earned the starting nod over Rudock in the 16-10 loss.
Cassel had completed just 5 of his 10 passes for no touchdowns (or interceptions) when he left the game late in the second quarter, before making a surprising return to the game with 2:17 left.
