While some may have wanted the Detroit Lions to do more at the EDGE position opposite Aidan Hutchinson this offseason, one of their more intriguing adds there was 2023 CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player Mathieu Betts. After going undrafted and spending training camp with the Chicago Bears in 2019, Betts joined the CFL and slowly became a phenom, recording an 18-sack season (in 18 games) last year.
He’s only been on the field for a month of padless practices in Detroit thus far, but Lions coach Dan Campbell has come away impressed with some of his abilities.
