Lions answer with field goal, trail 7-3

After the offense stalled in San Francisco territory, Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater made a 36-yard field goal to cut the Niners' lead to 7-3, with 5:19 left in the first quarter.

Lions running back Ameer Abdullah returned the previous kickoff 46 yards to his own 39-yard-line to give the offense good field position to start the drive. Calvin Johnson had one catch for eight yards. He was targeted twice.

The San Francisco 49ers marched 80 yards in 11 plays, to score the first points of the game -- a 1-yard touchdown pass from Blaine Gabbert to tight end Vance McDonald.
