The Detroit defense did on its second drive what it couldn't do on the first: made a stop. The Lions held the 49ers to a three-and-out, and with 3:54 to go in the first quarter, the Niners are still up 7-3.

After the offense stalled in San Francisco territory, Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater made a 36-yard field goal to cut the Niners' lead to 7-3, with 5:19 left in the first quarter.
Lions running back Ameer Abdullah returned the previous kickoff 46 yards to his own 39-yard-line to give the offense good field position to start the drive.
