Lions strong-side linebacker Tahir Whitehead understands some of the potential reasons Lions coaches had him play into the second half of an exhibition Thursday night in which only one other projected offensive or defensive starter appeared.
Travis Lewis and Josh Bynes have both performed well this summer and are capable of playing multiple positions. Whitehead also thinks he can work on his alignment as a middle linebacker, the spot he played last year when Stephen Tulloch suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Whitehead started in the middle this week — though he spent time on the outside — and played there until the end of last week's game.
