Lions waive cornerback Bill Bentley

The Lions waived cornerback Bill Bentley following the final minicamp practice Thursday.

A third-round pick in 2012 out of Louisiana-Lafayette, Bentley simply couldn’t stay healthy during his tenure with the Lions.

He missed most of his rookie season after injuring his shoulder, and after playing in 13 games in 2013, missed nearly the entire 2014 season after tearing an ACL in the season opener.

The emergence of rookie sixth-round pick Quandre Diggs in the slot through OTAs and minicamp, coupled with the addition of veteran slot cornerback Josh Wilson via free agency and the drafting of Nevin Lawson in the fourth round last year, may have led to the move.
