For the Lions and the Bears, the past is future.
This is where the timeline split. Plenty of Lions fans have wondered for weeks what it would have been like if D’Andre Swift had caught that ball in the end zone on Week 1, perhaps fates could have begun differently. But after the Thanksgiving skid and Matt Patricia’s defenestration, the Lions are scrapping towards the end and the inevitable coaching search.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears are falling apart and leaving nail marks a mile long as they try to hold on to their season. They’ve been exposed and losing game after game, and in their desperation they have wound back the clock and will once again start Mitch Trubisky, in what might be his final year as a Bear.
