According to Howard Balzer, the Detroit Lions brought in free agent WR DeAndre Smelter for a tryout on Friday.
The Lions are likely considering Smelter as a possible futures signing.
This is the second reported tryout for Smelter in the past few weeks after working out for the Colts.
Smelter, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2015. He was in the second year of his four-year, $2.28 million rookie contract when the 49ers waived him at the start of the 2016 season.
Smelter later signed on to the 49ers’ practice squad and has been on and off of the unit ever since.
