The writing had been on the wall with the way the Detroit Lions attacked the cornerback position this offseason. On Tuesday, the team made the expected move, parting ways with Jeff Okudah. The Lions agreed to trade the former first-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons, according to a source familiar with the deal.
According to an ESPN report, the Lions are getting back a 2023 fifth-round pick in exchange.
The move immediately clears more than $5 million in salary-cap space.
Okudah's time in Detroit was marred by injuries, limiting his effectiveness. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 draft, selected by the previous leadership regime, missed time during his rookie training camp with a hamstring injury and was utlimately limited to nine games after suffering a season-ending core injury.
