First-year general manager Bob Quinn spent much of the off-season mining for help at the back end of his roster, and one position at which the Detroit Lions appear deep heading into the season is defensive tackle.
Seven of the Lions' eight defensive tackles have the potential to be on Week 1 NFL rosters. And while it's unusual for teams to keep more than five interior linemen, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said today that the Lions are good enough at the position that he might stump for keeping an extra player.
“I think, as a defensive coordinator, what I try to do is fight to keep our best players that we can, regardless of position," Austin said.
