The Detroit Lions are signing tight end Orson Charles after he took part in this week's minicamp on a tryout basis.
Charles declined an interview request after practice, as he was on his way upstairs to complete paperwork for his contract, and Lions coach Jim Caldwell wouldn't say whether the move was imminent.
Charles, who last appeared in an NFL game in 2013 with the Cincinnati Bengals, was one of four players invited to this week's minicamp for a tryout.
He made six starts with the Bengals in 2012 and appeared in 13 games as a backup the following season.
