The Lions continued altering the back end of the roster on Friday, signing former Central Michigan defensive end Louis Palmer and cutting veteran offensive tackle Lamar Holmes.
During the past three seasons at Central Michigan, Palmer had 80 tackles, 12 for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles. He went undrafted this year.
The 6-foot-1, 269-pound Palmer will compete for a job in a shallow rotation of defensive ends. Behind likely starters Ziggy Ansah and Devin Taylor, Wallace
Gilberry is the only end with significant NFL experience on defense. Brandon Copeland and sixth-round pick Anthony Zettel could earn playing time, and the Lions added two other undrafted rookies, James DeLoach (Georgia) and Deonte Gibson (Northwestern).
