The work wasn’t over for Lions general manager Martin Mayhew and his staff when the last name was called in the seventh round of the NFL Draft last Saturday night. Mayhew and Co. quickly hit the phones and tried to sign players who went undrafted.
The Lions have changed the way they approach the “eighth round” of the draft over the last couple years, having more contact earlier in the process with a lot of these players.
Joseph Fauria, LaAdrian Waddle and Cornelius Lucas have been signed by Detroit as undrafted rookie free agents the last couple seasons and each has made an impact in the NFL.
