There were around 40 Detroit Lions players, coaches and scouting department personnel taking part in The Charlie Sanders Foundation Have a Heart Save a Life annual golf outing at Knollwood Country Club Monday afternoon.
Sanders, the Hall of Fame player with an infectious smile, was not in attendance, however, as he continues his battle with cancer.
Though absent, Sanders was still on the mind of many.
“It has a little special significance, obviously this year, with Charlie being sick,” Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said of the event. “He’s one of those guys that gives so much of himself.
