Lions say 'Concussion' movie may alter public opinion

Rashean Mathis and his wife, Ebony, made a point to watch the PBS Frontline documentary “League of Denial” when it came out two years ago, and the veteran Lions cornerback said they’ll go see the new Will Smith movie “Concussion” in a theatre sometime in the next few weeks.

But as interested as he is in seeing how Hollywood portrays the NFL and its concussion crisis, Mathis isn’t sure the must-see movie will do much to change people’s perceptions about the league.

“I think (the PBS documentary) should have been the trigger point,” Mathis said. “But it’s tough when it can be your reality and it’s fatal.
