Lions reportedly worked out a former first-round quarterback

The Lions held a competition this summer for the backup quarterback job to Matthew Stafford. Matt Cassel beat out Jake Rudock, technically, but it never felt like a runaway or the kind of performance to settle the nerves if Stafford's iron-man streak of 112 consecutive starts ever came into question.

And so the Lions are doing some diligence in checking out a former first-round pick at the position now. They worked out Paxton Lynch, whom the Broncos recently released and who cleared waivers despite going in the first round of the draft just two years ago. ESPN's Field Yates reported the news on Twitter.
