SANTA CLARA, Calif. — LeGarrette Blount’s fourth-quarter ejection for coming off the bench to shove a San Francisco 49ers player seemed to spark the Detroit Lions’ fourth-quarter rally that came up just short Sunday, but Lions coach Matt Patricia said the veteran running back needs to keep his emotions in check.
“He knows better,” Patricia said. “He knows that he can’t do that. Our guys know that they can’t do penalties on the field, either. We had too many out there. Just in general, we can’t have that.”
Blount was ejected with just over 10 minutes to play in the Lions’ 30-27 loss, when he left the sideline to shove 49ers linebacker Elijah Lee after Lee hit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.
