Allen Park — The Detroit Lions made a swap at the back of the tight end depth chart on Thursday, signing Sean McGrath and waiving Wes Saxton.
A five-year veteran, McGrath has spent time with four franchises, including the past three years with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 6-foot-5, 259-pounder appeared in 31 games the past two seasons, including 11 starts, catching six passes for 71 yards.
His best season came in 2013, with the Kansas City Chiefs, when he hauled in 26 balls for 302 yards and two scores. He briefly retired after that season, returning the next year.
