Zach Zenner's season is over.
Zenner, the Detroit Lions rookie running back, suffered multiple cracked ribs and a partially collapsed lung in the first half of Sunday's 37-34 overtime win against the Chicago Bears when he was hit by two Bears defenders after a 7-yard run.
Zenner was taken directly to the hospital from the game and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve at some point this week, Lions coach Jim Caldwell said.
Though Zenner, who suffered four or five rib fractures on the play, remains in the hospital, Caldwell said "things are improving for him.
