Lions keep gutting the defensive line while Jonathan Hankins remains unsigned

ALLEN PARK -- It's still only the preseason, but the Lions defensive line is not trending in the best direction.

On Friday, it played its second straight preseason game without recording a single sack. Its lone returning starter in the middle, A'Shawn Robinson, played deep into the fourth quarter. In the locker room afterward, Ricky Jean-Francois ranted about how the Lions can't stop the run or affect the quarterback right now.

Three days later, their response was to cut Cornelius Washington, an end-tackle combo who was one of the team's more productive pass rushers and edge setters last season.
