CHICAGO – Matt Prater holds the NFL record for longest field goal in NFL history when he made a 64-yarder with Denver. Now, he owns the Detroit Lions record for longest field goal as well.
Prater made a 59-yard field goal at the end of the first half to set the franchise’s record for longest field goal, breaking Jason Hanson’s old record of 56 yards.
He got the opportunity for the field goal after Tahir Whitehead intercepted Jay Cutler with less than a minute remaining in the first half. Prater eventually came onto the field to attempt the field goal.
