Lions hope to start Hendon Hooker in final preseason game as QB2 battle heats up

The Detroit Lions are starting to make decisions on which players they plan on keeping on their 53-man roster, and which position battles are still up for grabs. Coach Dan Campbell estimates the Lions have about five or six spots still being battled for, including at reserve quarterback, where Hendon Hooker and Nate Sudfeld have competed all offseason.

Hooker and Sudfeld have rotated snaps between the second and third teams throughout training camp practices, then in preseason Game 1, the Lions opted to start the veteran Sudfeld. The plan was to give Hooker the start in Game 2, but an untimely concussion delayed that opportunity.
