Lions ground Jets in exhibition opener

Detroit — The Lions will analyze every little thing that happened during their exhibition opener, but on the surface, they have a few reasons to be optimistic after a 23-3 win over the New York Jets Thursday night at Ford Field.

And above all else, rookie running back Ameer Abdullah displayed the enormous potential he's flashed in training camp thus far and looks like he could give the offense another dynamic playmaker.

Matthew Stafford led a flawless first drive and finished 2-for-2 for 57 yards and a touchdown with both throws to Golden Tate, who evaded defenders for extra yards after both catches.
