The Lions tried to claim tight end Tim Wright after the New England Patriots waived him in June. Now, after swinging a trade, they will have a chance to see him.
The Lions and Tampa Bay agreed to a trade Monday morning that will bring the 25-year-old Wright to Detroit and send rookie kicker Kyle Brindza to the Buccaneers. NFL Network first reported the deal that won’t be official until Wright and Brindza pass their physicals.
Although Wright has significant upside, he’s not a lock to make the roster with less than a week before final cuts, which is why a player-for-player swap made more sense.
