I held off on giving the Detroit Lions’ signing of linebacker Grant Stuard an immediate free agency grade because there were no known contract terms other than it was a fully guaranteed deal. Without those terms, it was hard to know how committed they were to Stuard, and it was impossible to know what kind of value they were getting.
This week, it was revealed Stuard’s deal was for one year and worth $1.7 million overall (see full contract terms here). With that knowledge now in place, let’s break down Detroit’s move.
Talent
For the past four years, Stuard has been an excellent special teamer.
