Lions fire coordinator Lombardi, two OL coaches

Allen Park — Just hours after coach Jim Caldwell said he didn’t plan to change his coaching staff, the team is indeed making adjustments.

The Lions fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn and assistant offensive line coach Terry Heffernan Monday.

With Lombardi out after just 23 regular-season games, the Lions will promote quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter to offensive coordinator, the first time he’ll hold the position in the NFL.

The Lions also will move assistant head coach Ron Prince to offensive line coach after he spent the previous two seasons working with tight ends.
