By Jim Caldwell’s own definition, this season was a disappointment.
“To me, there’s only one position to be satisfied with, and that’s winning it all,” Caldwell said before the Lions’ season finale against the Chicago Bears. “That’s being absolutely the best one in this league. Anything that falls short of that ... you’re going to be dissatisfied with.”
The Lions were one of the NFL’s biggest disasters this season. They lost seven of their first eight games, fired their general manager and team president at midseason, and though they rebounded with a strong second half, they never were good enough to be a factor in the playoff race.
