Lions' film review: New play, big-time throw set up Matt Prater FG

Call it good coaching, or a hunch, or some fortunate combination of the two.

Whatever the case, Jim Bob Cooter spent part of practice last week putting in a play that the Detroit Lions could use if they needed to pick up a big chunk of yards in hurry with no time-outs left.

As if on cue, there the Lions were Sunday, down three points against the Minnesota Vikings with 17 seconds to play, backed up at their own 33-yard line with one or two plays to get downfield.

Matt Prater kicked a 60-yard field goal during pregame warm-ups, so Lions coach Jim Caldwell figured he needed to get to at least the Minnesota 42 to give Prater a chance to tie the game.
