Lions' defensive will have to work harder to create pressure on QBs

The good news for the Detroit Lions’ defense after Kerry Hyder went down in Saturday’s exhibition opener with an Achilles injury is that they still managed to get good pressure on the Indianapolis Colts and racked up five sacks.

Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin dialed up a nice blitz for linebacker Paul Worrilow, one sack was the result of strong coverage in the secondary and two rookie defensive ends, Jeremiah Valoaga and Pat O’Connor, made impressive efforts on their sacks.

Now, for the bad news: If the season started today, the Lions' would have a crop of available defensive linemen who combined for seven sacks last season.
