Lions defense suffocates Tom Brady and the Patriots, with help from Matt Patricia

DETROIT -- Matthew Stafford opened the season with one of the worst first quarters you'll ever see at Ford Field. And then Tom Brady topped it in the very next game. Or bottomed it. Whatever.

Detroit's defense turned the screws on the New England quarterback Sunday night, holding him to 1 of 4 passing in a dominant opening frame -- for minus-1 yards. New England ran six plays, none of which moved the chains.

The Lions stepped on Brady's throat early, rarely let up and cruised to a 26-10 win Sunday at Ford Field.

"Just not making enough plays early in the game, and we're behind and we're just fighting all day," Brady said after the game.
