The Detroit Lions signed DeShawn Shead in March to potentially be a starting cornerback this fall. After preseason, the 29-year-old won't even be on the roster as the Lions cut the veteran on Saturday, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Shead had been dealing with a strained quad throughout training camp, an injury that forced him to miss two games. He played a lot in the preseason finale against Cleveland on Thursday and said he did so because he wanted to get enough snaps to be ready for the start of the season.
"I want to make sure we give him a good opportunity to go out and compete and look at him in a couple different positions and situations," Lions coach Matt Patricia said about Shead on Thursday night.
