ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions continued to overhaul their tight end unit on Monday by signing Wes Saxton before the start of mandatory minicamp.
Saxton has played for Buffalo, Washington and the Jets since going undrafted out of South Alabama in 2015, but appeared in just one game. He has not recorded a statistic in the NFL.
The 6-foot-3, 248-pounder caught 50 passes for 635 yards for South Alabama in 2013, although was held to 26 as a senior because of injuries.
Saxton joins a tight end group that lost co-starters Eric Ebron and Darren Fells in March.
