OAKLAND, Calif. -- When President Donald Trump called NFL players "sons of (expletives) who should be fired for protesting racial injustices during the anthem, the Detroit Lions protested.
This time, they didn't take the bait.
Hours after Trump renewed his attacks on the NFL, no Lions played knelt for the anthem before Friday night's exhibition opener against the Oakland Raiders. But they did continue to link arms, a show of solidarity they began when Trump launched his attacks last season.
He beat that drum against earlier Friday, upset that two Dolphins players -- Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson -- chose to kneel before their exhibition opener.
