Lions claim Romeo Okwara, cut Anthony Zettel

Allen Park – The Detroit Lions made a swap at defensive end on Wednesday, claiming Romeo Okwara off waivers and releasing Anthony Zettel.

Okwara, undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2016, spent his first two seasons with the New York Giants. The 6-foot-4, 274-pounder appeared in 16 games as a rookie, including four starts, recording 25 tackles and a sack.

He was limited to six games last season after suffering a knee injury but is coming off a preseason where he racked up up eight quarterback pressures, an area where the Lions have struggled.

The Giants released Okwara on Tuesday after signing defensive tackle John Jenkins.
