Lions changing some scouting procedures moving forward

This Detroit Lions team was expected to contend for the playoffs this season, but with a 1-7 record at the halfway point of their season, instead, they’re vying for the No. 1 pick in the 2016 Draft.

When it comes to next year’s draft, longtime scout Lance Newmark will be leading the team's effort after replacing Scott McEwen as director of college scouting in May.

“He’s been the lieutenant for a while and he and I have a great relationship,” Mayhew said of Newmark. “He lives in the Detroit area, so we spend a lot of time together, have been able to spend more time away from work together, so I think he’s going to do an outstanding job for us.
