The Lions chose not to tender Tim Wright as a restricted free agent last week, but the tight end will be back in 2016.
The team announced that Wright re-signed Monday, so he’ll return as a backup option at tight end.
Wright, 25, arrived in Detroit via trade last August with the Lions sending rookie kicker Kyle Brindza to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In nine games, Wright had nine catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
Wright played sparingly as the third option behind Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew, and block-first tight end Bear Pascoe, who’s also a free agent, played significant snaps late in the year.
