If it wasn’t clear before Thursday afternoon, it certainly is now: Detroit Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford doesn’t like losing and she isn’t going to sit idly by and watch any more of it.
Ford fired team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew Thursday afternoon on the heels of a 1-7 start and a 45-10 drubbing by the Kansas City Chiefs on a world stage in London last weekend.
Lewand and Mayhew have been in charge of the football operations on a full-time basis since 2009. Over that span the Lions have gone 41-63, made the playoffs just twice and lost both times in the Wild Card round.
