Allen Park – Detroit Lions defensive tackle Akeem Spence has taken a pay cut, according to an ESPN report.
Spence’s base salary was trimmed from $3.15 million to $2.575 million in 2018. But according to the report, he’ll have an opportunity to earn more than the difference back in bonuses. It’s unclear whether those are based on performance or playing time.
Spence signed a three-year, $9 million contract last offseason, which included a $2.25 million signing bonus. The 26-year-old interior lineman appeared in all 16 games in 2017, including 11 starts, recording 39 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.
