DETROIT -- Teryl Austin is moving on to the Cincinnati Bengals after four years of tinkering, toying and ultimately never fully growing his defense with the Detroit Lions.
What matters for general manager Bob Quinn now is to understand what worked and what didn't in order to find a path to the places Austin's defenses never did. Luckily for him, Austin had a legacy that was pretty easy to define: His defenses were always as good as his pass rush.
When Austin got to Detroit in 2014, his unit featured Ndamukong Suh, a First Team All-Pro playing out a contract year.
