ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Kerry Hyder is a stickler about routine. He sets two alarms on his phone daily. He has a particular way he brushes his teeth and then washes his face.
And his weekly routine has a recent addition.
As he was still trying to make the Detroit Lions' roster in August and was fretting about paying an $18,231 fine levied on him in the preseason, he went to an Outback Steakhouse and ordered an $8.99 Bloomin’ Onion and a 22-ounce rib-eye steak costing $27.99.
Two days later, he went out and had three sacks in the Lions' preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills.
